WHAT IS A CIO-TO-GO?
A CIO (Chief Information Officer) is usually a full time, director-level
IT professional that assists in all IT-related issues.
A CIO-TO-GO is a Chief Information Officer who takes on an employee
role, although they are not a full-time member of your staff. They spend
about 10 hours per week with each client, and, although most of the
work is done remotely, the CIO-to-go usually visits the client once
or twice per week.
Your CIO-TO-GO provides expert IT knowledge, along with past experience
in business management. Along with project management and custom software
development, they help formulate IT plans and budgets, analyze business
processes and, if warranted, recommend technical or non-technical solutions
to make the processes more efficient. Essentially, a CIO-TO-GO
is your IT expert!

CIO-TO-GO DEFINED
|
CIO (Chief Information
Officer) is a job title commonly given to the person in an enterprise
responsible for the information technology and computer systems
that support enterprise goals. As information technology and systems
have become more important, the CIO has come to be viewed in many
organizations as a key contributor in formulating strategic goals.
In many companies, the CIO reports directly to the Chief Executive
Officer (CEO). In some companies, the CIO sits on the executive
board. Typically, the CIO in a large enterprise delegates technical
decisions to employees more familiar with details. Usually, a CIO
proposes the information technology an enterprise will need to achieve
its goals and then works within a budget to implement as much as
possible of the plan.
Typically, a CIO is involved with analyzing and reworking existing
business processes, with identifying and developing the capability
to use new tools, with reshaping the enterprise's physical infrastructure
and network access, and with identifying and exploiting the enterprise's
knowledge resources. Many CIOs head the enterprise's efforts to
integrate the Internet and the World Wide Web into both its long-term
strategy and its immediate business plans.
With that definition in mind, a CIO-to-go is someone with both
business and IT experience that your company can outsource. He
or she is a persion that can take on role in your company that
will assist the executive board or owners in a smaller company
in analyzing and reworking existing business processes, with identifying
and developing the capability to use new tools, with reshaping
the businesses physical infrastructure and network access, and
with identifying and exploiting the businesses knowledge resources.
This person would help formulate the companies strategic goals.
Is it unique to outsource the
CIO position? Some very large corporations are out-sourcing their
CIO position. Parsons Corp., Delta Air Lines, Inc., Heidrick &
Struggles, ERCOT Inc.

HOW CAN A CIO-TO-GO SAVE ME MONEY AND INCREASE MY BOTTOM-LINE?
Although you could benefit from the level of IT expertise that is needed
to streamline your business and increase your bottom line, a full-time,
director-level IT professional may be too expensive for most growing
companies.
A far better value for your company is a CIO-TO-GO!
Instead of paying a top-level, full-time employee, your company would
use D. I. Petersen Consulting, your CIO-TO-GO, on retainer. D. I. Petersen Consulting would
be on-call 24 hours a day for simple advice, answers to tough questions,
communication with outside partners and meetings.
We would also help you develop an IT budget and assist you in planning
